Delegation Visit from Las Cruces, N.M., to Ciudad Lerdo, Durango
November 15 to 17, 2025
The delegation from Las Cruces began its journey on the evening of November 14, traveling to Ciudad Lerdo for a three‑day visit centered on strengthening Sister City ties. Upon arrival the next morning, the group was welcomed in Gómez Palacio and settled into Hotel San Francisco before enjoying breakfast at Hacienda San Fernando and some time to rest. The day’s official activities included a formal meeting at the Municipal Hall with the new Mayor Susy Carolina Torrecillas Salazar and the city council, where leaders from both cities renewed the Sister Cities Agreement. Later in the afternoon, committee members from Lerdo and Las Cruces gathered for a joint planning session accompanied by lunch and live musical performances at Casa Nava. The performance was by Jorge Martinez-Rios (Professor at NMSU) and Mariana Chabukiani. The evening concluded with the Coronation of Queen Lerdo 2025–2026 at the Hermila Galindo Theater.
The second full day highlighted Lerdo’s cultural and historical heritage. After breakfast, the delegation attended a civic ceremony honoring Miguel Lerdo de Tejada in the Main Plaza and the 131st birthday of Lerdo, followed by a visit to the Francisco Sarabia Museum and hotel check‑out. The group then joined the celebration of Ciudad Lerdo’s 131st anniversary, toured the Chalet Gorosave Historical Museum, and participated in an official luncheon with municipal authorities. Festivities continued into the evening with the Lerdo Anniversary Festival and traditional street parade at Victoria Park. The visit concluded with a transfer to the bus station and a warm farewell from the hosts.
